Description

BBW56 is one of 400 objects catalogued by Brand, Blitz and Wouterloot.

As Brand, Blitz and Wouterloot researched the southern sky they catalogue various objects.

Many of these objects are lesser known perhaps due to being extremely faint.

BBW56 is a complex nebula comprising of emission and dusty reflection nebulosity

In the catalogue of Brand, Blitz & Wouterloot (1986), the H II region BBW 56 is close to the pulsar PSRJ0738-4042 on the sky and has an angular extent of ~3°. Brand & Blitz (1993) assign a distance of only 250 pc to this H II region, placing it in front of the Gum nebula.

As this nebula is very faint but well structured find here also the version without stars.

Also you can find some objects from the PGCC catalog (Planck Catalogue of Galactic Cold Clumps) in this image. These PGCC objects are identified in this annotated image.

Some words to the PGCC objects:

Because the PGCC detection method is based on the temperature of the sources,

which is relatively cold compared to their environment, the low temperatures are a proxy for high column densities and also exclude the possibility

of very strong internal heating. The Planck clumps contain higher

density substructure, including gravitationally bound pre-stellar and proto-stellar cores.

More details on the PGCCs you find in the PGCC description starting at page 2.

As this nebula looks like the last mask of Frederick the Great

i renamed this image from BBW56 to "Frederick the Great" ....

North is at the top of this picture.
